Prince Michael saw them looking and straightened up a
little."The Prince is guarding Alissa's royal jewels and
gifts," said Brenna. She and Alissa exchanged looks and then giggled.
Brenna whispered to the girls, "I think Michael has a crush on Alissa.
Ever since she came here from Arcadia with her father he's been trying
to act all grown up and extra helpful." Isabella did think Michael
looked awfully handsome in his deep green tunic and black leather boots.
"The yellow roses are from him," Brenna added and giggled again.
Isabella could tell Alissa was trying not to smile. "And they are
lovely. It would be nice if he'd get up the courage to talk to
me, though." Brenna didn't try to hold back her laughter and waved as
she walked over to talk with one of the other Princesses.
"So why aren't you becoming Queen of Arcadia," Isabella asked, and
then hoped it wasn't a rude question or something she should already
know.
"Oh," said Alissa casually, "I'm only going to be Queen in
Carpathia for a few years. My father thinks it will be good training for
when I become Queen of Arcadia. Come on, let's dance!" she said
brightly.
Julia still looked a little panicky about dancing. Emma must have
noticed too because she said, "First, Queen Alissa," and when Alissa
looked like she was about to say something she corrected herself, "I
mean Alissa, we have some gifts for you we'd like to put with the
others." Emma gestured to the silver baskets on the ground.
"Of course," said Alissa graciously, "you are very kind."
